and wear our poppies with pride.

I am no poet, but I just posted this on my Facebook page and well I hope you like. Every word I speak in this video is from my heart. My truth.

Every year we have the same controversies come November about the Poppy and what it symbolises. Well, here, in the video above, you can hear what it means to me. Below are the actual words for you, should you want to see them in print properly.

Why I will always wear my poppy with pride

We do not live in a perfect world. But, for sure, I know this:

It is a better world than it would have been, thanks to the

sacrifice of all those men and women who fought in World War I and II,

along with those who have since fought to defend our freedoms;

Those whom we pay homage to on November 11th each year.

I know this:

There is every chance that, if it were not for their sacrifice,

my parents may never have had the life they did.

They may never have met.

I may never have been born.

I know this:

I owe my very existence to those who fought,

those who struggled, those who endured,

those who died, and those still living with their

brutal experiences of war and their haunting

memories of friends and loved ones long gone.

I know this:

They were ordinary people, just like you and me, and yet,

through the turmoil of war they found courage, bravery,

brotherhood, sisterhood, a willingness to

sacrifice their own lives so that we may have ours.

They were extraordinary,

So I know this:

I owe them all my life. More than that,

in remembering them and hearing their stories,

they have helped make me the person I am today.

For all this and more, I thank them. And though we have never met,

I will remember them every year of my life, without fail.

For sure, I will never forgot them. Never.

They are as dear to me as if they were my own family.

I owe them everything. So, each year, I will shed a tear,

offering a word of thanks for every single one of those

men and women who gave me the chance of life.

So know this: I will always wear my poppy with pride.

(Gail Rajgor: 3/11/16)

Take from it what you will ... big hugs my lovelies.

I will be back soon,

Gail x

GIVE THEM A PERSONALISED PORTRAIT PHOTOSHOOT GIFT CERTIFICATE AND AN HOUR THEY'LL NEVER FORGET http://www.ragewithasmilephotography.com/blog/2016/1/get-a-personalised-portrait-photoshoot-gift-certificate-and-an-hour-theyll-never-forget

If you have a friend or family member who lives in Suffolk, Norfolk or Hampshire I have the perfect gift for you and them - a personalised gift certificate for a Rage With A Smile Photography portrait photoshoot - human or animal, I cater for all.

Pictured above is a recent photoshoot gift certificate I was asked to do for a client based in Havant as an 18th Birthday present for her niece who lives here in Suffolk. I'm looking forward to meeting Alice and her friends and seeing what we come up with for their photoshoot here on the Suffolk coast.

Here to the right is another bespoke photoshoot gift certificate - this one produced as a Mother's Day gift using previous photos taken of my client, Dani, and members of her family, who are also local here in Suffolk. I can do the same for Valentine's Day too ... which reminds me don't leave it too late to take advantage of my special Valentine's offer for couples in love in Suffolk and Norfolk.

Or perhaps you have a pony-loving equestrian-obssessed relative? Treat them to membership of the Rage With A Smile Photography Equestrian Club and they'll get three photoshoots of them with their pony/horse (at a significantly discounted price).

These can be at the location or event of their choosing and must take place within 12 months. In addition, as a member of the Equestrian Club they get all their photos to share on social media networks, discounts on all print products plus other benefits too. Again, I am more than happy to personalise the gift membership certifcate.

It just makes for such a caring, personal gift, I can totally understand why my bespoke vouchers are becoming increasingly popular with my clients - and I don't charge extra to create your personalised certificate either. It's all just part of the service as far as I'm concerned!

Of course, if you want to keep things real simple then you can always opt for a general Rage With A Smile Photography Gift Certificate  - I have ones to cover my three standard portrait packages, plus Mother's Day and Happy Birthday vouchers too. I'll be adding Valentine's Day and Father's Day certificates to the collection soon also - but you don't have to wait!

HERE'S HOW SIMPLE IT IS

Just contact me and I can create a gift certificate for any occasion.

All you then need do is ...

  1. Tell me what kind of certificate you're looking, the occassion (if any) and if you have any specific message you'd like added, as in the example at the top for Alice's 18th, or not.
  2. I then design the gift voucher (including a personalised, specific code for the recipient to use during booking and to ensure they get 10% off for future purchases),
  3. I then send you a proof copy of it for you to approve or request any changes, and then
  4. I produce the final certificate.
  5. It can then be either posted to you, direct to the gift recipient, or emailed for you to print out, send on or even post direct to someone's Facebook timeline or any other social media platform a a surprise on the special day.

All the recipient then needs to do is contact me to arrange their photoshoot, quoting the code printed on the certificate. This same code can then also be used by them to save money on all future purchases with Rage With A Smile Photography. And if you'd rather just give someone a money-off voucher - then I also have gift certificates valued from as little as £10 up to £150 which can be used against the cost of photoshoots and print products too. And again, any of these can be personalised to suit the occasion.

You can order your gift certificates directly from my website by clicking here. Alternatively, give me a call today on 07921 258583 or email info@ragewithasmilephotography.com to find out more, discuss your options, purchase direct from me or book a photoshoot.

Cheers for now,

Gail

Magnificent and Proud Bird of Prey - a portrait of Banham's Bald Eagle http://www.ragewithasmilephotography.com/blog/2015/5/magnificent-and-proud---a-portrait-of-banhams-bald-eagle

The magnificent Bald Eagle - who one earth could fail to be impressed by this majestic creature?

I saw this particular beautiful Bald Eagle fly yesterday during the the Birds of Prey display at Banham Zoo, Norfolk, UK - the sister wildlife park to Africa Alive (another fabulous UK zoo, also located in East Anglia, but in Suffolk). It really was spectacular and the Bird of Prey display, while entertaining, was also thoroughly enlightening - the handler was excellent.

It was a great opportunity to really test out my new Sony A7 camera - and right now I am in the process of editing the photos I took during my visit (these are the first ones I've edited). If you like these Bald Eagle photos, just wait until you see the ones I got of the vultures, the African Barn Owl, and other birds and wildlife. Will try to post them soon.

In the meantime, here are some Bald Eagle facts (courtesy of  the folks from Banham Zoo):

  • With distinctive white head and tail plumage and a yellow beak, the Bald Eagle is the national emblem of the United States of America, although it is also found in Alaska, Canada and Mexico.
  • More importantly, while not deemed to be an endangered species, numbers of Bald Eagles in the world have declined significantly, as with so many animals, thanks to hunting, habitat loss and the use of pesticides, according to the guys at Banham Zoo.
  • Bald Eagles love fish which is no doubt why they tend to live near large bodies of open water. However, they will also feed on birds, mammals and reptiles. And get this ... they can lift approximately half their body weight (their weight can range from 3-6.5kg).
  • They build their nests in tall trees.
  • As loving parents the male and female share the workload to raise their young.
  • And their scientific name for those who'd like to know is Haliaeetus leucocephalus.

Working towards conservation and education

Of course, for some, seeing any animal in a zoo is never going to be OK. I would (like many people) much rather see these birds (and other wildlife) doing their thing freely in their natural habitats. However, zoos such as Banham - which is part of the registered charity Zoological Society of East Anglia - do a fabulous job all in the name of conservation and education.

Not all zoos are bad and, while I too struggle when I see animals in their zoo enclosures, I always try to remember the great work also being done in their names. And for the record, I'll always speak out too if I fear any zoo is not up to standard and is simply exploiting any animal for money. Banham Zoo certainly does not seem to come into that category I am very glad to say.

I can heartily recommend a visit - whatever your age!

Right I better get back to editing those other photos - Bird of Prey display pics here I come. Have a good evening everyone x

PS. In case you are wondering, yes that is fake grass he's perched on in the top pic!

After yesterday's drama with the baby Mistle Thrush, today Ozzie and I came back from our walk to find another fledgling sat by our back gate enjoying the sun.

Thankfully, this one found a slightly safer spot to perch and, I dare say, a more comfortable one than the gravel.

Yeah for moss-covered bricks!

And Hurrah... It's almost the weekend!x

Baby Mistle Thrush chick rescued and safely reunited with its mother http://www.ragewithasmilephotography.com/blog/2015/4/mind-the-gate-baby-mistle-thrush-chick-lands-in-danger Baby Mistle Thrush - 23rd April 2015 So in yesterday's post I introduced you to the baby blackbirds which have fledged in my garden. Today, it's time to say welcome to another new arrival, although it has had a somewhat precarious start to its new life here in Cake Street.

Look closely at this photo (right - click to see bigger version). Spot the baby Mistle Thrush? If you haven't seen it yet - it's smack bang in the middle of the picture! When Luke (who's doing some gardening work for me) called me out to come see the fledgling, I didn't see it at first either, but I was slightly further away than you are looking at this image. It just merged right in with the shingle, sitting by the main gate, totally oblivious to anything.

Baby Mistle Thrush - 23rd April 2015 Had Luke not spotted it before opening the gate I dread to think what fate the poor creature may have suffered.

Luckily eagle-eyed Luke did see it. We hoped that with us inching closer to it slowly it would scurry off to the side and under the hedge, where it could access the lovely gardens next door (yes the one with the beautiful pond and ducks and yadda yadda yadda - I do love my neighbours despite my garden envy). The baby thrush had no intention of moving however. It just sat there. We checked it was OK of course - it was. It was just refusing to be intimidated.

Baby Mistle Thrush - 23rd April 2015

So, me being me, I took advantage of being that little bit closer to the tiny baby and took a couple more photos, as you can see.

However, with the gate being in regular use, eventually I knew this adorable little baby Mistle Thrush just had to be moved to a safer spot if it wasn't going to move by itself.

Luke confidently volunteered for the job ... this is what happened as he approached: Baby Mistle Thrush - 23rd April 2015

Yes, the poor little thrush made a futile rush for the gate and at one point almost got tangled up in the wire mesh.

I am very happy to report, however, that Luke did manage to get the little bird, safely placing it out of harms way. It was a rather loud affair though. The baby thrush screamed its little head off which, as you'd expect, resulted in its mother (or father, I can't honestly be sure) come swooping over protectively from out of nowhere with that characteristic loud, harsh rattle sound they make (sounds like one of those wooden football rattles you get). It soon calmed down once it realised its baby was safe and sound.

As for Luke and I, we could get back to work knowing we'd done our good deed for the day. After all, while Mistle Thrushes are fairly common in the UK their numbers have been reported to be down in the last few years by the RSPC and others. So, today, it's wonderful to report their numbers are up by at least one here in Suffolk.

Until next time, have a lovely day x

The Cake Street baby blackbirds have fledged and come to say hello http://www.ragewithasmilephotography.com/blog/2015/4/the-baby-blackbirds-have-fledged

Where does the time go? One minute the blackbirds and other birds are busy building a nest. The next, they are busy getting food for their chicks (picture, right) and then, bang, the babies have flown the nest. As I revealed in my previous post, the blackbirds nesting in my garden here in Suffolk became parents a week or so ago.

An exhausting time for them indeed - they were going back and forth non-stop in search of some meaty worms and grubs to feed their very demanding little chicks. It was fascinating watching them. Well, those chirping Cake Street chicks have fledged, as you can see from these latest photos.

With the glorious weather we've been having I have been taking my coffee breaks out in the garden again, which has enabled me to conduct my own Springwatch here in Suffolk quite comfortably. On Monday, 4-5 baby blackbirds (by my best count) decided to investigate my garden and check me out, although never wandering too far from their nest - that happens to be in an ivy-strewn hedge just behind my oil tank which itself has now been expertly redecorated with an assortment of bird-poop white splashes!

But I don't mind, green and white is a good combination I guess - and better there than on my car, which seems to have an irresistible attraction to animalsMoreover, with the blackbird nest being where it is, I could get some lovely photos of these gorgeous fledglings without having to disturb them.

When I first walked out with my coffee, I was confronted with 4 baby blackbirds all suddenly staring at me - two of them on the oil tank, one on the patio, and one on a flower pot.

Of course, they all scurried back to the safety of the hedge fairly quick.

Having put my coffee on the garden table nearby, I nipped in and grabbed my camera and waited to see if they would be brave enough to come out again any time soon. They did and two of them were keen to introduce themselves.

It's moments like that I truly treasure and it's certainly a fabulous way to spend a coffee breakWith so many other birds and wildlife here in Cake Street I can't wait to meet all the other new residents soon to grace my garden.

After all, my morning walks with my dog Ozzie already include saying a regular hello to dozens of baby ducks - have to confess I am slightly jealous, as one family have made their home in my neighbour's garden, but then they have a pond and I don't. Pics of those darling ducklings to come soon.

So life in Cake Street is good right now with nature providing a new spectacle to marvel at every day, be it through the wildlife, the gorgeous landscapes now painted vibrant greens and yellow, or the stunning sunsets I am blessed to be able to see from here. Hope you have it as good where you are.

Have a great day everyone x

Now here's a delicious breakfast for you http://www.ragewithasmilephotography.com/blog/2015/4/now-heres-a-delicious-breakfast-for-you So a few weeks back I realised a pair of blackbirds were busy preparing a nest within the hedge/ivy/brambles growing up the fence just outside my back door - check out my post on Facebook to see the photos.

Well the chicks hatched a week or so ago and today, finally, I managed to get a photo of one of the blackbird parents taking them a whole bunch of worms for their breakfast. Spring has certainly sprung here in Cake Street that's for sure.

A platter of worms? Delicious. If you're a baby blackbird that is - you want to hear those chicks chirp for joy!!

You can see the original of this photo and those of the blackbird getting the nest ready in my Birds Gallery.

And if you had any doubt that Spring is in full swing well check out the photos I took on Easter Sunday of the cutest lambs you ever did see by visiting my Farm Animals gallery. I'll be posting more in there soon so watch this space.

For now, have a fab day everyone and enjoy lunch x

For the love of horses http://www.ragewithasmilephotography.com/blog/2015/3/for-the-love-of-horses

A facebook post by the wonderful Redwings Horse Sanctuary in my newsfeed today instantly grabbed my attention. It was commenting on an excellent blog by Fran Jurga for Equus Magazine: Does your Horse Need a Roomate?

Now I’m certainly no expert when it comes to these things but it did make me reflect on the horses and ponies I have known, the countless conversations I have had with them (yes I talk to horses – what’s your problem with that?) and the photos of them I have taken. And in doing so, it made me smile, for I do know a few things for sure:

  • Almost all of them love company – be it of the human or fellow-horse variety
  • They all love to be fussed over – to differing degrees
  • They all need love, care and affection
  • They all love having a friendly chat now and then (yes they do!)
  • They all have individual personalities and souls to match
  • They all place their trust in their owners to provide proper care for them
  • They all place their trust in their owners to treat them with respect, if not love
  • They all deserve all of the above and more.

So do all animals we call “ours”. Indeed, so do all animals generally.

So is your horse in need of a little social home makeover?

Should you, as Fran Jurga asks, rip the stall walls out of your barn? Read the article, reflect and come to your own conclusion.

I’d imagine that, very much like us humans, there are some horses which prefer the blissful solitude of their own company sometimes and those who prefer the company of others 24/7.

Seeing when a creature is in distress, unhappy, hungry, or lonely is not rocket science though.

Look at them. See and hear what they try to tell you.

Feel their joy. Feel their pain. Then Act.

RWASP_Ronnie_70dpi-5862RWASP_Ronnie_70dpi-5862

Do whatever you can to improve their daily lives and do everything in your power to repay them for the joy they give you by their very existence in yours. As Redwing’s Chief Executive Lynn Cutress says: “Even a small change can make a big difference to your horse’s mental health and wellbeing.”

And if you can no longer afford the time or the money to care for them please do not just leave them to suffer or worse – there have been so many heartbreaking stories in recent times of fly-grazing, or horses left to die and rot in the most hideous manner. There is no excuse for this at all and it's good to finally see some legislative progress on this front.

There is no shame in finding yourself suddenly unable to care for your horse. The shame can only come in not finding them a new home instead.

If you can’t do that, then please, please, please get in touch with the wonderful folk at Redwings or any other animal rescue organisation.

It’s the very least your horse or pony deserves afterall.

All photos ©RageWithASmilePhotography and all the horses pictured are very well loved, cared for and happy.

Create, capture and cherish those special moments with your mum forever http://www.ragewithasmilephotography.com/blog/2015/3/create-capture-and-cherish-those-special-moments-with-your-mum-forever

It's been a busy start to 2015 and it's seems set to get busier as we approach Mother's Day here in the UK.

I am getting a lot of enquiries for portrait photoshoots and gift vouchers for some of those fabulous mums out there, young and old.

Rather than simply give out a standard design, I am tailoring the gift vouchers for people to add that extra personal touch. From the choice of photos to the words carefully crafted, the gift certificates are tailored to each individual (as in the one pictured here, right, which has been done for both a mum and a grandma). After all, every mum is unique and special in their own different way, so they all deserve a little extra effort when it comes to spoiling them don't they!

With less than a week to Mother's Day why not give your mum a really special gift this year by creating a whole bunch of new memories with her and have Rage With A Smile Photography capture them for you and her to cherish forever. I offer three standard photoshoot packages, with prices starting at £45, although I am happy to tailor a photoshoot to your needs and budget. There's also 10% off all product orders after.

You can order your Mother's Day Gift vouchers directly from my website by clicking here. Alternatively, give me a call today on 07921 258583 or email info@ragewithasmilephotography.com to find out more, discuss your options, or book a photoshoot.

And Happy Mother's Day to all you wonderful mums out there x

Use this 5-point Christmas Gift Checklist to make your last minute Xmas gift shopping stress-free http://www.ragewithasmilephotography.com/blog/2014/12/5-point-xmas-gift-checklist

Trying to get everything wrapped up before the Christmas holidays can certainly take its toll can't it? Can you believe it's 2 weeks to Christmas Day? It's been a hectic few weeks and I am nowhere near ready - but I bet I'm not the only one.

Stressing about what presents to buy is certainly not helping. Maybe I just need to sleep on it -  like the gorgeous little Eben pictured here in the middle of a recent photoshoot I did of him and his sister. [I know, he's just too cute!]

Gift ideas are proving particularly problematic for me ... it's not like I can buy all my loved ones a Rage With A Smile Photography gift voucher or book them all in for a fabulous photoshoot with yours truly is it?

You can. I can't. That just wouldn't be right. So I need to put my thinking cap on and come up with some nifty gift ideas pretty quick. 2 Weeks to Christmas Day ... Help!

I need all the advice I can get so do please let me know if you have any great ideas. With a lot of photo editing and journalism work still to do in the next week, I will be chained to my desk for much of the time.

So to make my life easier whatever I get will have to meet all the criteria in my 5-point Christmas Gift Checklist:

  1. A gift my friends and loved ones will adore and make them feel truly blessed to have such a thoughtful, caring, and fabulous person such as me in their lives;

  2. A gift that while thoughtful requires minimal effort to acquire and with that a stress-free shopping experience;

  3. A gift that is pure quality but affordable;

  4. A gift guaranteed to arrive in time for Christmas Day

  5. A gift that will keep on giving and spread Christmas joy for each and every Christmas yet to come.

Tricky yes, but I am determined to give my friends and loved ones the best gifts I can. A gift that checks off all those points? Got it. And I just know you're thinking it too right ...

Yes, a Rage With A Smile Photography gift voucher for a fabulous photoshoot with a wonderfully talented, caring, fun, professional, extremely humble photographer based right here in Suffolk. Yep, that ticks off the full Christmas gift quality checklist above.

Perfecto ... that will put a smile on their faces every bit as cute as little Eben's smile for sure I think!x

Oh no ... I can't get them that. BUT YOU CAN!

Just drop me a line via email or give me a call any time right up to Christmas Eve and we'll get it all sorted in time I promise. Alternatively just message me via the Rage With A Smile Photography Facebook Page. You'll get your last minute Christmas shopping done in a flash so you can make merry and have loads of festive fun without unnecessary stress.

Now that's Christmas Shopping Rage With A Smile style!x

Taking up the challenge http://www.ragewithasmilephotography.com/blog/2014/10/taking-up-the-challenge So I was challenged recently on Facebook to post different kinds of photos I've taken but not shared until then. The challenge was to post every day for five days and well I thought I'd share my five photos with you ... Enjoy!

Day One: Ozzie gets his head in a spin but always keeps his eye on me

Day One Photo Challenge: Ozzie gets his head in a spin but always keeps his eye on meYou know what they say to capture a great portrait ... Focus on the eyes. So OK ... One eye in this case! And if you're wondering, no I did not use a filter or some magic software to create that effect of Ozzie's head in a spin! Just the right camera settings as he shook his head the way dogs manically do.

Day Five: HTML Heaven in Stockholm

Wherever in the world, 100 years on and for years to come ... WE WILL NEVER FORGET. http://www.ragewithasmilephotography.com/blog/2014/8/wherever-in-the-world-100-years-on-and-for-years-to-come-we-will-never-forget

I have no other words.

So instead here are the words of my favourite war poet, Wilfred Owen.

This classic poem, Dulce Et Decorum Est, describes

the horrors of a gas attack in WW1.

The title words are of course Latin and mean "It is sweet and right".

The final words to the poem translate to

"It is sweet and it is right to die for your country".

As Owen says "The Old Lie".

Dulce Et Decorum Est

Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,

Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,

Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs

And towards our distant rest began to trudge.

Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots

But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;

Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots

Of tired, outstripped Five-Nines that dropped behind.

Gas! Gas! Quick, boys! - An ecstasy of fumbling,

Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time;

But someone still was yelling out and stumbling,

And flound'ring like a man in fire or lime...

Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light,

As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.

In all my dreams, before my helpless sight,

He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.

If in some smothering dreams you too could pace

Behind the wagon that we flung him in,

And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,

His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin;

If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood

Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,

Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud

Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,---

My friend, you would not tell with such high zest

To children ardent for some desperate glory,

The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est

Pro patria mori.

By Wilfred Owen (1893 - 1918)
