Pictured here are two of ZSL London Zoo's gorgeous Asian Lions: Fewer than 300 of this species remain in the wild and captive breeding is key to their survival, says ZSL. This is the lion often referred to in the bible and the breed used in Roman arenas. It used to range from Greece, across the Middle East to India, but persecution has virtually wiped it out. Trust me it's well worth a trip to London to encounter these beautiful big cats! See more photos from ZSL London Zoo here.
