Me on video Raging With A Smile about Why I Will Always Wear My Poppy With Pride
On November 11th, we will remember them ...
and wear our poppies with pride.
I am no poet, but I just posted this on my Facebook page and well I hope you like. Every word I speak in this video is from my heart. My truth.
Every year we have the same controversies come November about the Poppy and what it symbolises. Well, here, in the video above, you can hear what it means to me. Below are the actual words for you, should you want to see them in print properly.
Why I will always wear my poppy with pride
We do not live in a perfect world. But, for sure, I know this:
It is a better world than it would have been, thanks to the
sacrifice of all those men and women who fought in World War I and II,
along with those who have since fought to defend our freedoms;
Those whom we pay homage to on November 11th each year.
I know this:
There is every chance that, if it were not for their sacrifice,
my parents may never have had the life they did.
They may never have met.
I may never have been born.
I know this:
I owe my very existence to those who fought,
those who struggled, those who endured,
those who died, and those still living with their
brutal experiences of war and their haunting
memories of friends and loved ones long gone.
I know this:
They were ordinary people, just like you and me, and yet,
through the turmoil of war they found courage, bravery,
brotherhood, sisterhood, a willingness to
sacrifice their own lives so that we may have ours.
They were extraordinary,
So I know this:
I owe them all my life. More than that,
in remembering them and hearing their stories,
they have helped make me the person I am today.
For all this and more, I thank them. And though we have never met,
I will remember them every year of my life, without fail.
For sure, I will never forgot them. Never.
They are as dear to me as if they were my own family.
I owe them everything. So, each year, I will shed a tear,
offering a word of thanks for every single one of those
men and women who gave me the chance of life.
So know this: I will always wear my poppy with pride.
